Newcastle, Oklahoma

Playground in Newcastle, OklahomaNewcastle provides ample events to create Hometown Nostalgia. From Homecoming Parades down Main Street, to the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration at Veteran’s park. There are special events that the local Chamber of Commerce sponsors. The Great Pumpkin Fest each Fall as well as the Annual Christmas Tree lightning which fosters community spirit for all.

Garage sale enthusiasts enjoy the Annual City Wide Garage Sale each spring for a 3 day event. Also, debuting in various settings are Art Shows as well as Quilt Shows.

From Friday Night Lights Football at the Newcastle Racer’s premiere football field to Summer time softball leagues, Newcastle offers ample opportunities to the sports enthusiast!

Norman, Oklahoma

Norman, Oklahoma conveniently located only 12 miles to the east of Newcastle, and includes many wonderful events and sights for you and your family.

The University of Oklahoma The University of Oklahoma (OU) is located in Norman, and includes the 8-time National Champion Sooner football team. You have not experienced a football game until you experience it with 89,000 cheering Sooners fans in Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. OU also has a wide range of collegiate sports to attend, including men and women’s basketball games at the Lloyd Noble Center, wrestling and volleyball at the historic Field House, and much more.

The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural HistoryOU also is home to many cultural and scientific points of interest. Be sure to patron the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, where you can see Native American artifacts and cultural displays, as well as natural history displays, including dinosaurs! The museum has many permanent displays, as well as rotating displays that are always changing, making you want to come back to see what is new!

Oklahoma is known for its weather, and the University is known for its meteorology program. The National Weather CenterNational Weather Center is located on campus, and includes the university’s Meteorology program, many different research institutions, and the area’s National Weather Service office and the Storm Prediction Center! Tours of the building are given upon request.

Norman, Oklahoma, like many great college towns, has some of the best dining experiences in the country. Try the famous barbeque from Van’s Pig Stand downtown, or sit down at Coaches and enjoy a handmade pizza while surrounded by local sports memorabilia. Campus Corner also includes a spread of wonderful places to eat and shop, right next to campus!

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

BricktownBricktown is the center of Oklahoma City’s nightlife and entertainment. There are award winning restaurants, night clubs, the riverwalk with boat tours, Bass Pro Shop, the Harkin’s Movie Theater, the Chesapeake Energy Arena (home of the NBA’s Thunder), and the Bricktown Ballpark (home of the OKC Redhawks).

Botanical GardensThe Myriad Botanical Gardens is an amazing complex consisting of the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory – a 224-foot living plant museum, and a wonderful park surrounding the bridge. The gardens are a great place to go any time of year, but they are especially beautiful around Christmas when the trees are decorated in and around the park.

OKC ThunderOklahoma City is the proud home of the NBA Thunder basketball team. The Thunder are new additions to the Oklahoma City area, but they already have a rabid following. Taking in a game at the Chesapeake Energy Arena is a great way to spend an evening! In addition to basketball games, the arena is also host to many different concerts and events throughout the year.

Oklahoma City MemorialOn April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City was changed forever, and to remember that day, Oklahoma City created one of the most thought provoking memorials in the world. The Oklahoma City National Memorial is a place to quietly reflect on the events of that day. The memorial has tranquil reflecting pool surrounded on two sides with memorials reading the minute before and the minutes after the tragedy. The memorial also has a museum with artifacts from the day.

Oklahoma City ZooOklahoma City’s Adventure District is a great way to spend a day with the family. The adventure district includes the Oklahoma City Zoo, the Omniplex / Science Museum Oklahoma, the Oklahoma State Firefighter Museum, the National Softball Hall of Fame, and Remington Park. Essentially, there is something for everyone to do.
